Maria da Gloria (Silveira) Medeiros, of State Street, passed away on March 30,2024, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late Eleuterio Medeiros.
Born in Covoada, but raised in Relva, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Francisco Sousa and Maria Adelina (Silveira) Ferreira. A mother of seven, she is survived by her children: João (Rosa) Medeiros of Bristol, Octavio (Deborah) Medeiros of Bristol, Connie (João C.) Medeiros of Bristol, Adelina (Antonio) Avila of Bristol, Lisa (Oscar) DeLemos of Bristol, and Carmen (John) Ferreira of Warren; 18 grandchildren: John Paul (Erin) Medeiros, Carmen (KateLynn) Medeiros, Kevin (Monica) Medeiros, Laura Medeiros, Benny Medeiros, Allison (Louis) Ferreira, Cassandra Medeiros, Kimberly (Kyle) O’Dell, Brian (Ediline) Avila, Krystal (Ross) Pickett, Jonathan (Alisha) DeLemos, Josselyn DeLemos; Jessica (Adam) Hamel, Joshua (Hannah) Ferreira, Christopher (Taylor) Ferreira, Courtney (John) Pomerleau, Scott Medeiros, and Stephanie (the late Jose) Domigos; and 27 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Jose G. Medeiros; and brothers Juvenal De Sousa, Eduino Silveira, and Serafim Silveira.
Mrs. Medeiros attended school in Relva. She immigrated to the United States in 1972 and worked full time while raising her children. Maria became an American citizen within her first five years of living in the U.S. She worked for P.F. Industry, I Shalom, and Robin Rug before retiring. She was employed by Silver Creek Manor while caring for her husband during his ailment. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church, as well as a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality and the former Legion of Mary. Maria enjoyed going to the local nursing homes to visit patients, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and word searches. She loved her family and helped raise many of her grandchildren. One of her favorite memories was meeting Pope John Paul II in Rome.
Her funeral services will be held Friday, April 5th, 9 – 10:30 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
