Elvira (Cabral) Botelho, 90, of Chestnut St. passed away on July 7, 2019 at Newport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Geraldino A. Botelho for 65 years.
Born in Pico da Pedra, Sao Miguel, Acores, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria da Gloria Teixeira Cabral. She is survived by her children: Helder and his wife Marisa Botelho, of Portsmouth, Zulmira and her husband Robert E. Allcock III of Tiverton; grandchildren: Christopher Botelho, James Botelho and Robert E. Allcock IV. She is survived by her sisters: Leonilde Da Camara Simoes, and Eduarda T. Cabral both of Sao Miguel, Azores; her sister in laws and many nieces and nephews. Elvira was the sister of the late Gilberto Cabral, Geraldo Cabral and Leonel Cabral all of Bristol, RI.
She attended schools in Sao Miguel and then apprenticed as a seamstress quickly establishing her own business. She arrived in the United States in 1963 where she worked as a seamstress. She worked for Priscilla Sportswear, Royal Robes, and Well Made Dresses for many years before retiring. She was a faithful parishioner of St Elizabeth’s Church where she was also a member of the Rosary Sodality. Elvira enjoyed cooking and being with her family, campfires in New Hampshire, sewing, listening to music, and helping any friend and family in need.
Her funeral services will be held Thursday 8:30 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial,11am AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
