Manuel Aguiar Obituary

Manuel Pereira Aguiar, 94, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2019.

Born in Castelo Branco, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Laura (DeFreitas) Aguiar. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Lourdes (DaSilva) Aguiar with whom he shared his life for 59 years. 

He leaves behind his daughter, Maria M. Aguiar of Bristol.

He was the brother of Idalina Santos of Fall River, MA, Teresa DaSilva of Somerset, MA, and the late Charles W. Aguiar, Maria Fialho, Odilia Souto and Carlos Manuel Aguiar.

Before coming to this country, he was manager of a Café in Lajes, Flores.  He then worked as a Laborer for the Thoresen Forms Company of Boston, MA until his retirement.

Manuel enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and playing cards/dominoes with his friends at the Bristol Sports Club.  He was an avid fan of the Benefica Soccer team.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially during holiday gatherings and on trips abroad to Canada and Portugal.

His funeral services will be held Thursday, September 12th, 8 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 9 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Wednesday, September 11th, 5 – 8 PM
