Zelia (Borges) Amaral, 85, of Westwood Road, passed away on June 26, 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Gil DeMelo Amaral.
Born in Povoacao, Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria Julia Borges. She was the mother of Lucy (Joe) DaSilva, Gil (Marie) Amaral, Lubella Amaral, Donald (Sherry) Amaral, Tony (Holly Machado) Amaral, Dorothy (Hector) Valenzuela and the late John C. Amaral. She is also survived by her daughter in law Elsa Amaral -Ribeiro. She was the grandmother of David DaSilva, Joseph DaSilva, Sarah DaSilva, Jennifer Amaral, Kristine Amaral, Derek Vieira, Chelsea Vieira, Joshua Amaral, Shawn Amaral, Brian Amaral, Meghan Franco, Shana Valenzuela, Kyle Valenzuela, Kevin Amaral, Melissa Messier and great grandmother of Calvin DaSilva, Malcolm DaSilva, Jordan DaSilva, Mason Fleury, Aiden Braga, Paisley Amaral, Zoey Amaral, Alannah Amaral, Dylan Amaral, Paige Messier and soon to arrive Jaxon Franco. She was the sister of the late Deolinda Brandao, Maria doCeu Amaral, Antonio Borges, David Borges, Carlos Borges and John Borges.
Mrs. Amaral was employed by I. Shalom and Converse but was best known for the sweetbread she made at Amaral’s Fish & Chips. Her sweetbread was the best and when they hit the shelves they didn’t last long!
Calling hours will be held Saturday, June 29th, 8 – 10:30 AM at the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street, Bristol with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
