Ann (Amaral-Woodard) Colegrove Obituary

Ann Marie (Amaral-Woodard) Colegrove, 82, of Bristol, passed away on October 23, 2024, at Overlook Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late DeForest W. “Bud” Colegrove, Jr.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Avila) Amaral. She is survived by: her children Robert L. Woodard, Jr. of Plymouth, MA, Matthew M. (Indra) Woodard of Pembrooke Pines, FL, Christopher W. (Lisa) Woodard of South Dartmouth, MA, and step-son Mark (Ellen) Colegrove of Bedford, New Hampshire; grandchildren Robert L. “Luc” Woodard III, Caroline K. Woodard, Christopher W. Woodard Jr., Nolan R. Woodard, Matthew O. Woodard, Taylor Colegrove, Harrison (Lauren) Colegrove, Gracie Colegrove, Delaney Colegrove, Peyton (Gianfranco) Colegrove DeRosa, Jeffrey & Caitlin Colegrove, Stefan (Linh) Colegrove, Trevor (Lauren) Colegrove, and Amanda (Jonah) Laird; and great-grandchildren Annabella DeRosa, Hanna Colegrove, Maisy Colegrove, Cooper Colegrove, Emma Colegrove and Jamison Colegrove.

She was predeceased by: her son Mark J. Woodard; and Brother Joseph Amaral, Jr.

Ann was a graduate of Warren High School class of 1960. She raised her family and resided on Franklin Street in Bristol, was a saleswoman for Mary Kay Cosmetics for 15 years, and was co-owner of Colegrove Photography before retiring. Ann moved with her husband Bud to different European countries, where he taught for the University of MD. The two traveled extensively throughout Europe before settling in Heidelburg and Bamburg, Germany for many years, until he retired from in-person teaching.

They then moved to Belen, New Mexico where they bought a home and set their roots. Ann established many new relationships with her church friends and local businesspeople as she made instant friends. Ann was always happy to cook and bring her dishes to any and all parties that they were invited to. If anyone complimented her dish, she was always happy to share her recipes and give pointers on cooking. Ann had an amazing sense of humor and could light up a room with her smile, laughter, or funny stories. She once performed a stand-up comedy act to much applause. Ann was extremely proud of her children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. She became friends with most of her son’s friends (besties with their wives) and would love to stay at any party until the end, “hanging with the young people”. She also loved her close friends and cherished their longstanding, trusted relationships. She will be sadly missed by many.

Her funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 10 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, followed by a Christian Memorial Service, 11 AM at First Congregational Church, 300 High Street.

Calling hours are Sunday, 4 - 7 PM.
