Anna M. Sousa

Anna M. (Marshall) Sousa, 90, of Bristol RI, passed away on June 1, 2025, at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Sousa.

Born in Providence, Anna was the daughter of Joseph and Philomena (Arrone) Marshall. She is survived by her children: Ann Marie (David) Goldwater of New Zealand, Laura (the late Gary) Hood of Smithfield, Joseph (Jane) Sousa of Warren, and Anthony (Kristin) Sousa of Bristol; grandchildren: Robert W. North (Amber), Scott J. North, Kimberly M. North (Ernest), Matthew J. Sousa, and Katelyn R. Sousa; great-grandchild: Deion Hazzard; sister Betty (Richard) Carlone of Naples, FL; brother-in-law Anthony (Suzie) Sousa of Margate, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her brother Joseph (Janice) Marshall and sister-in-law Maria C. Sousa.

Anna attended Bristol Schools. She was employed by Converse and Raytheon for several years but spent a majority of her career caring for her family as a homemaker. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was what she cherished the most.

Upon her husband’s retirement, Anna and her late husband Joe of 67 years made residence in Coconut Creek, Florida. There she enjoyed traveling, her husband’s cooking, dining out with good friends, playing Bingo and cards, trying her luck at the casino, entertaining friends and family at home, and sitting on the sidelines cheering her husband on when bowling.

Anna’s final months were spent back in her hometown of Bristol where she enjoyed spending precious time with her family. She also participated in various activities and renewed old friendships.

Anna will be fondly remembered for her genuinely sweet and gentle nature, her love of animals, and the love and devotion she had for her family.

Visitation will be at the George C Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St, Bristol RI on Saturday, June 7th, from 9:00 to 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street Bristol, RI at 11:00 am. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol RI.
