Arnalda Valentina (Sousa) Pontes

Arnalda V. (Sousa) Pontes, 80, from Swansea, Massachusetts passed away on March 26, 2024 at Rhode Island Hospital. 

Born in Fonte do Bastardo, Terceira, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria Georgina (Toste) Sousa.  She is survived by her daughters Florisa (Victor) Lepore of Warwick; Carmen (João) Leca of Rumford, and Deborah (Henry) Storm of Swansea; and grandchildren Alexis, Melissa, Zachary, Corey, Alyssa, and Hannah. She was the sister of Antonio Sousa of Somerset, Manuel Sousa of Bristol, Maria Fatima Toste of Bristol, Lucia Reis of Bristol, and Fernanda Simoes of Bristol.  She was predeceased by her son, Corbey Pontes.

Arnalda was educated in Portugal and lived most of her life in Bristol, RI where she was employed by the Rhode Island Veterans Home for many years before retiring. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church.  Arnalda enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters, traveling, dancing, going out to dinners and playing cards together.  She was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother that truly enjoyed being surrounded by her family.  Arnalda loved to crochet and made sure each family member had a blanket made to their likeness.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 3rd, 8 – 10:30 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, Bristol, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol RI. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
