Clara Marie (Barboza) Mello

Clara Marie (Barboza) Mello, 94, of Bay View Avenue, Bristol passed away on December 30, 2021 at Silver Creek Manor. She was the devoted wife of the late John Francis Mello with whom we believe she is now reunited.  

Born in Warren, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rose (Tavares) Barboza.  She was the loving mother of Christine Pirraglia (the late Thomas) of Elgin, IL; Catherine Mello Alves (Walter) of Swansea, MA; Carolyn Mello Pryor (Deacon John Pryor) of Bristol; proud grandmother of Amanda (Damon) Morse, Stephanie (RAE) Shipman, Christian J. Pryor, Aryn Mello Pryor and great grandmother of Payton Morse, Evan Morse, Sophia Shipman and Roland Shipman.  She was the sister of the late Gerald Barboza and is survived by her sister-in-law Donna Barboza.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Clara loved her many years working with the students at Roger Williams University and with Visiting Nurses as a translator.  She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Parish and an active member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.  Her favorite “job” was tending to her grandchildren. Clara loved to read, pray the rosary and was always looking for someone to trounce at Scrabble!  She will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 8th at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol.  Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
