Deolinda (Rodrigues) Alves

Deolinda Alves, 84, a life-long resident of Bristol, RI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020.  Deolinda was born in Bristol on November 30, 1936 to Serafina (Sophie) Medeiros Rodrigues and John Rodrigues.  She graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1955 and started her clerical career at Amica Insurance, in Providence.  She later worked for the Town of Bristol for a number of years, followed by the RI Department of Employment Security, from which she retired in 1996.  Deolinda married Joseph Alves, Jr. in June 1956 and they raised four children in their home on Hopeworth Avenue.  She was a fastidious homemaker and an excellent cook, and was happiest when spending time with her beloved family over a good meal.

Deolinda was predeceased by her husband Joseph Alves, Jr., siblings Anthony Rodrigues, Eugene Rodrigues, John Rodrigues and Mary Helen Barbosa.

She leaves behind her children Dr. Cynthia M. Alves of Bristol, Dr. Stephen E. Alves and Michael Istvanko of Boston and Provincetown, MA,  Joseph Alves, John Alves and Jennifer Alves all of Bristol and two grandsons, Saxon Alves and Braden Alves also of Bristol.

Deolinda will be laid to rest following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
