Dinis P. Soares

We are sad to announce the passing of our loving father/avô, Dinis Pereira Soares.

Dinis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Bristol, RI on Wednesday, November 19th at the age of 88. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Manuel and Maria José Pereira Soares; and his siblings: Inez Pavão, Noé Soares, and Conceição Dias.

Dinis was the beloved and dedicated husband to Idalina (Tavares) Soares for 63 years and the father of: Lucia (João) Medeiros of Bristol, RI, Louis (Elizabeth) Soares of Alexandria, VA, and Lena (Victor) Soares of Fall River, MA.

Dinis was loved by his grandchildren: Nicholas, Maya, and Tiffany (Helio); and great grandchildren: Vincent and Daniel.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as extended family in the United States, Canada and Portugal. His face lit up whenever he saw or spoke of his family.

Dad was a wonderful man, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was born in the village of Candelária on the island of São Miguel, Açores. He emigrated from Portugal to the United States and was proud to become an American citizen. He took pride in everything he did and worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He loved to walk along the streets of Bristol, travel around the world with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and bragging about their many accomplishments. He lived a joyful life with integrity, faith, love and family.

His funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 8:30 – 9:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday, 2 - 5 PM.
