Frances "Ag" Hartwell Obituary

Frances “Ag” Hartwell, of Bristol, Rhode Island, formerly of Concord, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, surrounded by love, on July 25, 2024. She was born at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton, MA and raised in Lexington, MA, by her parents Frank and Anna Liccardi, with her late sister Eleanor Rowe.

Frances graduated from Lexington High School in 1950. She met her husband of 58 years, and love of her life, Haywood “Pete” Hartwell Sr., in Arlington, MA. They raised two children, Leslie Anne Hartwell and Haywood ”Hardy” Hartwell Jr.

Frances worked for multiple companies in her career, ultimately ascending to Senior Buyer for Instrumentation Laboratories in Lexington MA, responsible for procurement of research and development electronics, computer and office equipment, and facility maintenance supplies. She most enjoyed procurement and acquisition of building renovations, and interfacing with upper management, building designers, and contractors.

Frances and Pete enjoyed their summers in their in-ground pool and home of 46 years in Concord, MA. Together, they enjoyed playing in competitive Duplicate Bridge Tournaments in the Middlesex County of MA and friendly games of cribbage against friends and family.

Following retirement, they enjoyed annual road trips in January and February to Florida to visit family and friends throughout the Sunshine State.

In 2008, Frances and Pete moved to Bristol, RI. Frances resurrected her bridge skills and played multiple times a week at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, as well as in the evenings at the Barrington Public Library.

Frances is survived by her children, Leslie Hartwell and her husband David Jameson of Warren, RI, Hardy and his wife Arlene of Bristol, RI; her grandchildren Nathan and his wife Kacey of Haverhill, MA, Bradford and his wife Lindsey Llewellyn of East Providence, RI, and Annie and her husband John Pini of West Newbury, MA; her 7 great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews, and their children.
