Francisco O. Garcia, 84, of Bristol, RI, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Zelia (Botelho) Garcia, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage.
Born and raised in Relva, São Miguel, Açores, Francisco was the son of the late Jose and Maria Ermelinda (Oliveira) Garcia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Jose Garcia of Bristol, Rosemary (Paul) Sousa of Bristol, and Sandra Garcia-Cummings of Riverside; as well as his beloved grandchildren: Serena Sousa, Joseph Garcia, Christopher Sousa, and Avery Garcia.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Silverio Garcia and Maria Ines (Garcia) Verissimo.
Growing up in São Miguel, Francisco took pride in managing his farm and caring for his livestock before moving his family to the United States. He was employed by Swan Finishing Company in Fall River, MA, for over 35 years.
Francisco had a lifelong devotion to the Holy Ghost. He served as Mordomo in 1963 in São Miguel and continued his dedication as an active member of the St. Elizabeth’s Holy Ghost Committee, proudly serving again as Mordomo in 1989 and 2009.
He was also a member of the Portuguese Independence Club and the Lincoln Club.
Francisco will be remembered for his homemade wine, which he took great pride in making each year—always happy to share a glass with family and friends. Most of all, he was proud of his family and cherished spending time with them.
