Francisco Rafael, Jr.

Francisco "Frank" S. Rafael Jr., 89, of Bristol, passed away on October 19, 2023, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center.  

Born in Capelo, Faial the Azores He was the son of the late Francisco Sr. and Francisca (Moitoso) Rafael. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Maria "Lucy" (Motta) Rafael and his siblings Jose Rafael, Maria Rafael, and Luisa DaSilveira. He is survived by his daughter Mary Anne (David) Beck of Warren, and his beloved grandchildren Caroline and William.  

Frank was educated in Faial before immigrating to the United States in 1959. He was employed by Pearson Yachts and Roger Williams University for 20 years before retiring. Frank was an avid gardener whom you could always find outside. He turned that passion into a business with "Rafael's Lawn Service" which operated for 30+ years, taking care of clients all over the East Bay. His beautiful garden was a focal point on Wood St., captivating neighbors which showcased his passion. He also had a passion for animals that sprouted in his childhood being surrounded by goats and other livestock.  

Whether he was gardening, landscaping, or fixing his equipment, his dedication to his work could only be surpassed by his dedication to his two grandchildren whom he was beloved by the most, they were the highlight of his life.  

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 21st, 9 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetary.
