Frank L. Palumbo

Frank L. Palumbo, 94, formerly of Sherry Avenue, passed away on May 24, 2025, at Crestwood Nursing & Rehabilitation with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Mary M. (Margie Castro) Palumbo.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Leonardo and Gaetana (Piemontese) Palumbo. He is survived by his sons: Gary (Mary Lou) Palumbo of East Falmouth, MA, and Bruce (Trisha) Palumbo of Bristol; grandchildren: Alison Jean (Jon) Mello and Alyssa Rose Palumbo; great grandchildren: Alaina (David) James, and Julia Mello; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Phyllis Barboza, Antoinette Amaral, Mary DiPaolo, Virginia Sousa, Anna Oliver, and Matthew Palumbo.

Mr. Palumbo was a lifetime member of the Bristol Fire Department, and the oldest living member in Bristol when he passed. He joined the Defiance Hose Company in May 1955, and was a member for 70 years. Mr. Palumbo was Captain in 1965 and was well respected by his peers.

Mr. Palumbo attended Bristol Schools. He was employed by Converse for 40 years as well as the Rhode Island Veterans Home for 12 years. He enjoyed family get togethers, watching the Red Sox and the Celtics, watching his sons play softball at the Bristol Common and Colt State Park, and collecting model antique cars. Before becoming a resident of Crestwood, Mr. Palumbo enjoyed having lunch at the Bristol Senior Center whenever he could.

His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 8:30 - 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
