George Souto Correia, 92, of Jameson Drive passed away on January 8, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Adeline (Quintal) Correia. Mr. and Mrs. Correia experienced a very special and rare love story and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Louise (Dias) Correia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mary Louise Palumbo and her husband Gary, George Correia and his wife Elizabeth, Frank Correia and his wife Justine; grandchildren Alison Mello and her husband Jon, Isabelle Correia, Michaela Pacheco, Christopher Correia and Justin Correia and great grandchildren Alaina Mello and Julia Mello. He was the brother of the late Manuel Correia.
Mr. Correia was a graduate of East Providence High School and the Rhode School of Design. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War as a member of the Marine Corps Band. He played trumpet in the East Providence High School Band before he joined the Marine’s and was a member of the Portuguese Independent Band for 45 years as music was a big part of his life. He was a carpenter by trade and served as Captain and Assistant Chief of the Bristol Hydraulion Fire Department. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved family gatherings, home cooked meals, reading, boating, and golfing.
His funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12th, 9 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Avenue, Warren RI. Burial will be private.
