Germaine A. Securo, a former life-long Rhode Island resident, died on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Vermont, at the age of 91. Germaine was the widow of the late Frank J. Securo of Bristol, RI, and the late James H. McDonald, Jr. of Cumberland, RI, and Hyannis, MA.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Vadnais, Jr. and Germaine (Van Thyne) Vadnais. She graduated in the class of 1950 from Sacred Heart High School in Pawtucket, RI. She and a group of her high school friends, calling themselves “The Friday Nighters”, all met together at one of their homes over the course of the next 50+ years, sharing good times, sad times, raucous laughter, child-rearing tales and a few cocktails. She was a working wife and mother who raised her children in Cumberland and, later, Frank’s two young children in East Greenwich. In the 1980’s, she co-founded and operated a successful bridal shop in Warwick, RI. In their retirement years, she and Frank lived in East Greenwich, then Smithfield, and loved their vacation trips to Europe. They also loved large and loud gatherings of their combined children and grandchildren. After Frank’s passing, Germaine lived in North Providence for a few years before moving into her daughter’s home in Vermont in 2021.
Germaine is survived by her two siblings, Arthur Vadnais III (wife, Claire) of Pawtucket, RI and Christine (Vadnais) Sheridan (husband, Robert) of Providence, RI. She is also survived by her four children, Sharon (McDonald) Hart (husband, Josh) of East Dummerston, Vermont; Lisa Securo-Brown (husband, Ross) of Brooklyn, NY; Michael J. McDonald (wife, Mimi) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Stephen J. McDonald (wife, Barbara) of Coventry, RI. Germaine is survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was also the step-mother of the late John Securo of East Greenwich, RI.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, September 21, 9:30 – 11:30 AM at the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St, Bristol RI 02809. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 12 PM Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St, Bristol RI. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut St, Bristol RI.
