Gilda D. (Gomes) Canario, 97, formerly of Metacom Avenue, passed away on March 5, 2025, at Silver Creek Manor surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Manuel T. Canario, and former wife of the late Daniel P. Costa.
Born in Warren, she was the daughter of Augustino and Mary L. Gomes. She is survived by her daughter: Jane (Kenneth) Machado of Bristol; grandchildren: Kenneth (Meaghan) Machado of Bristol and Ryan D. Machado (Ashley Taylor) of Bristol; great-grandchildren Andrew Machado and Alethea Machado; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings: John Gomes and Mary Dryer.
Gilda was a 1945 class graduate of Warren High School. She was employed as an office clerk for various companies such as Converse and PF Industries for 20 years before retiring. Gilda was very family-oriented and was always there for her family. She enjoyed cooking, babysitting, and delivering groceries every time she went shopping.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 9:30 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff of Silver Creek Manor for their exceptional and personable care that they provided Gilda.
