Obituary

Herman Martin, affectionally known as “Joe Parts”, 87, formerly of Mt. Hope Ave, born in Bristol, he was a lifelong Bristolian and passed away on August 29, at the Silver Creek Healthcare Center.

Herman was married to his lifelong sweetheart and loving wife, Angie (Andrade) Martin, for 65 years. Herman was the son of the late August Martin and Maria (Arruda) Martin and was the son-in-law to Mary (Soares) Andrade.

Herman attended Bristol schools and went on to become manager and the owner of Bristol Auto Supply for over 40 years. Herman and his wife Angie were dedicated parishioners of St Elizabeth’s Church. They were regulars in attendance at the Christmas Eve Mass held at Sisters of St. Dorothy.

Herman enjoyed his family, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Herman was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. Herman and Angie enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and spending time at their condo in Newport.

Herman has joined his wife Angie, his brother John Martin (Gert), his sisters Mary (Martin) Landry (George), and Hilda (Martin) Raul (Ted), his grandson Austin James Martin, and his great grandson Chancelar Diaz, and many more before him in eternal life. He was the brother-in-law of John Andrade Jr. (Valerie).

His children, Herman Martin Jr. (Pam), Lori Ann Gardiner (Timothy) and Steven Martin (Laurie), survive their dad, Herman. He was the grandfather of Ashley Diaz (Daniel), Aaron Martin (Erika), Aftayn Santoyo (Macee), Paige Benevides (Joseph), Devin Arsenault (Christopher), Timothy Gardiner Jr. (Kimberly), Jared Gardiner, Samantha and Jenna Martin; great grandfather of Daniel Jr., Dayne, Seth and Bristol Diaz, James Farias, Aaron Jr. and Keira Martin, Ella and Joseph Benevides Jr., Bradley Arsenault, Ethan and Jacob Gardiner.

The wake will be held on Friday, September 8th, from 4 to 8 PM at George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St, Bristol, RI. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, September 9, at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St, Bristol. Christian burial service will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Herman and his family would appreciate memorial donations made in his honor to the Fraternal Order of Police, Bristol Lodge #28, P.O. Box 386 Bristol, RI 02809.
