Jose A. H. Goulart

Jose A. H. Goulart, 81, of Cumberland, passed away on August 24, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Antonieta (Silva) Goulart, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Capelo, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose S. and Alexandrina Goulart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Debra M. Hughes and her husband John of Bristol and Sandra Moitoso and her husband Joao of Cumberland; grandchildren, Joseph Oliveira, Julianna Hughes, Jared Hughes, Taylor Moitoso, and Johnna Moitoso; great-grandson, Noah; and siblings, Maria Alexandrina Da Silva of Faial, Azores, Natalia Cannistra of Naples, FL, and Rose Tavares of Bristol, RI. He was predeceased by his brother, Vasco Goulart.

Jose was the owner and operator of Cumberland Seafood for 20 years before being employed by Reed-Rico for 19 years. He was a devoted family man who especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He loved bringing family and friends together in his Adega, where he enjoyed sharing his homemade wine, food, stories, and laughter.

A man of strong faith, Jose believed deeply in the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. He enjoyed spending many hours in his workshop, tending to his garden and treasuring his time on his beloved island of Faial, where he remained deeply connected to his roots and family.

Jose was adored by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, love of family, and warm spirit will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him.

His funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 8:30-9:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
