Jose de Sousa Mendonca

Jose deSousa Mendonca, 89, of Washington Street passed away on February 2, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital.  He was the husband of Maria Elena Lopes (Carvalho) Mendonca.  

Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was son of the late Jose and Virginia (Pereira) Mendonca.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Angelo Mendonca and his wife Sally of Hawaii; Virginia Martins of Florida; and Carlos Mendonca and his wife Elena of Pawtucket.  He was the grandfather of Angelo Mendonca, Gilberto Mendonca, Sheena Huntington, Sarosa Silva, Natasha Bolt, Nakita Mendonca, Gabriel Mendonca, Kayla Mendonca, Kevin Martins and the late Colby Mendonca and great grandfather of  Isaac Martins, Kevin Martins Jr., Kayden Martins, Natalia Mendonca, Ava Bolt, Allisandra Bolt, Achilles Bolt, Brandon Silva Jr, Silvana Silva, Sage Huntington, Raegan Mendonca, Anastasia Mendonca and the late Colby Mendonca.  He was the brother of Antonio Mendonca, Laura Medeiros, Victor Mendonca and the late Manuel Mendonca.

Mr. Mendonca was educated in Portugal and employed by Pearson Yachts for 23 years before retiring.

His funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 16th with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
