Jose N. Resendes, 92, of Jessica Drive, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Rolanda (Raposo) Resendes, his wife of 61 years. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion.
Born in Cabouço, Lagoa, St. Michael, Açores, he was the son of the late Antonio M. and Maria Madelina (Sousa) Resendes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dorothy (Michael) Sherman of Bristol, Joseph (Susan) Resendes of Bristol, and Diane (Michael Sacco) Belanger of Bristol; grandchildren: Kaela Sherman, Jacob Sherman, Ava Resendes, Zander Resendes, and Colin Belanger; beloved great-granddaughter: Mia; and sister: Luisa Lima of São Miguel, Açores.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Manuel Resendes, Virginia Faria, Olivia Tavares, and Maria Ana Resendes.
Mr. Resendes was educated in Portugal. He was employed as a greenskeeper for Ledgemont Country Club for 45 years before retiring. Jose took great pride in his work at the country club, where his strong work ethic and love of the outdoors shined through. Jose proudly made homemade wine for many years, a tradition that brought family together and created many lasting memories.
After developing Alzheimer’s disease, Jose’s personality began to change in unexpected ways. Once known as a serious and quiet man, he gradually became more lighthearted, playful, and full of humor.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at HopeHealth, Staff Solutions, and prior Lifetime Medical Support Services who all provided care with dignity and respect. A special thank-you to Carolina Zapata, CNA, who provided exceptional care to Jose.
His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 9 – 9:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday, June 1, 4 – 7 PM.
