Joseph Manuel Faria Moniz, 75 of Borges Street passed away on October 18, 2022 at home. He was the husband of Lubelia Maria (Machado) Moniz.  

Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Domingos and Madelena (Faria) Moniz.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Nelson Moniz.  He was the brother of Manuel Isaac Moniz, Maria Lurdes Faria Moniz, Madelena Dias and Maria Zinha Correia.

Mr. Moniz graduated from High School in Portugal and was employed by Carol Cable for 40 years before retiring.  He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church and active in many of the church's organizations.  He served as a member of the Holy Ghost Committee for 50 years and was the former President of the Santo Cristo Committee.  He was also a member and former President of the Don Luiz Filipe Society. Mr. Moniz was the host of the television program "Caravela" and also wrote for the Portuguese newspaper "O' Journal.

His funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25th, 10 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
