Joseph Ramos Obituary

Joseph M. Ramos, 84, of Bay View Avenue, Bristol, passed away on June 9th at the Grand Islander Center in Middletown, RI. He was born in Fall River, MA to the late Jose C. and Mary M. Ramos. A proud, lifelong Bristolian, he was devoted to his large family and wife of 58 years, Maria Lourdes Ramos.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Maria (the late Humberto) Pacheco, and brothers, Lionel (Gilda) Ramos and Alfred (Pauline) Ramos. He was the proud father of eleven children: Linda Ramos, Marie (David) Coccio, Laurie Heyden, Deborah (Jeffrey) Ash, Paul (Kristen) Ramos, Jennifer (David) Galluzzi, Joseph A. (Brooke) Ramos, Julie (Austin) Horn, Diane Ramos, Mark (Nadine) Ramos, and the late Karen Ann Ramos. He was a loving grandfather to Kathleen (Jeff), Kelly, Katarina, Hunter, Jeffrey, Yvonne, Nathaniel, Dawson, Melissa, Dwight, Jordan, Joseph Jr, Brennan, Andrew, Janessa, and great-grand daughter, Audrey.

Joseph graduated from Colt Memorial High School (1954) and the Radio and Television School of Providence.  He served in the U.S. Army as a radio mechanic and upon returning home he started his own business as an electrical repair technician.  Afterward, Joseph went on to work for 48 years at Raytheon in the Submarine Signal Division.

Joseph taught his children the values of faith, hard work, and generosity. As a devout parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Church, he was a past member of the Holy Ghost Committee and volunteered at annual church feasts. He was an avid gardener and proudly tended to his many crops. He enjoyed animals, fishing, and exploring his favorite places around New England with his family. Joseph was very dedicated to his children and grandchildren and kept busy with their many activities, including his all-time favorite, the Orange Crate Derby.   The family is especially thankful to the staff at Grand Islander Center for their exceptional love and care.
