Joseph U. Silveira, 87, of Hopeworth Avenue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on November 8, 2023. He was the husband of the late Armanda Maria (Labao) Silveira.
Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Sousa) Silveira. He is survived by his daughter Donna (Edward) Cabral of Bristol; granddaughters Lauren Cabral (Nicholas DeNardo) of Warren and Audrey Cabral of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Richard Silveira of Gary, IN.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Manuel Silveira and Lorraine Jernigan.
Mr. Silveira was a 1958 graduate of Colt Memorial High School. He was a delivery driver for UPS for 28 years before retiring. His was a life well-lived. He was a man who exemplified selflessness and devotion to his wife and family. All who encountered him were blessed by his kind and gentle spirit, sense of humor, and integrity.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 13th, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. The family will be receiving condolences at the church prior to Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. All are invited to gather in his memory at Portside Tavern, 444 Thames Street, following the services.
