Joseph Sousa

Joseph  “Joe”  Sousa , age 50 , passed away peacefully on April, 15, 2020 at  Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. He was the loving husband of Angela (Walpole ) Sousa to whom he was married for 28 years.

Born in Portugal and raised in Bristol, a son of the late John and Isaura (Tavares) Sousa he lived in Bristol for 47 years . He attended Bristol Schools and graduated in 1988.

He enjoyed following the  San Francisco 49ers, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. As a lover of sports in addition to following his favorite teams  he played hockey and soccer in his youth .

More than anything he cherished spending quality time with family and friends and especially looked forward to their Saturday night family dinners .

He and his wife were foster parents for the past 13 years opening their home to more then 70 children . Over the years they adopted 4  of their foster girls giving them a forever home .

In 2018 he and his wife were recognized for their involvement with RI Foster Program and presented with The East Bay Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizens of The Year Award .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Kimberly and her fiancé Daniel Tougas , Matthew and his fiancee Chelsea Petit, Emma, Savannah, Kassandra, Juliana and Alaina ; brothers John Sousa and Steven Sousa and sister in law Renee Conte and her husband Alan. He was the son-in-law of Ronald  and Elizabeth “Bette” Walpole.

He worked  as a Maintenance Supervisor for Temple Landing in New Bedford ,MA.

A mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
