Manuel J. Ferreira, Jr.

Manuel “Red” J. Ferreira, Jr., 94, of Bristol, RI, passed away on May 25, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Natalie (Brum) Ferreira for over 67 years.

Born on October 13, 1930, in Rehoboth, MA, he moved to Bristol during his teen years. He was the son of Manuel J. and Elvira (Sousa) Ferreira. Red served as a proud member of the U.S. army for 2 years. He was an arborist for the Kinder Brother Tree Company for over 50 years, and throughout his life he never passed up the opportunity to nurture a seedling or tend to his garden. Red was a longtime member of the Bristol Rod & Gun Club, and spent countless days enjoying Narragansett Bay: fishing, clamming, and relaxing on Hog Island with family and friends.

Red was a loving father of Joseph Ferreira and his wife Kimberly of North Dartmouth, MA., Patricia Booth of Bristol, and Judy Lowen and her husband Chris of Portsmouth. He was “Popi” to seven grandchildren that he adored: Abbigale (Shane) Scott, Rachel (Matthew) Moriarty, Aaron Booth, Peter (Kaitlin) Lowen, Nicole Ferreira, Katrina Ferreira, and Jada Ferreira. He leaves one great-granddaughter, Hadley Scott. He was also a cherished uncle to over 25 nieces and nephews.

Red was also the brother of the late Elvira Santos, John Ferreira, Ferdinand Ferreira, Julia Ferreira, and Mary Goulart.

His funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 9:30 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
