Margaret Jane Verria, 87, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Lawrence M. Verria.
Born in Sligo, Ireland, she ventured to the United States in 1954 with two sisters and several friends. Soon after arriving in Rhode Island, she worked for several families as a caregiver, a vocation she embraced in its many forms for much of her life. Marrying is 1960, her life’s focus soon centered around her family. She instilled in her children the importance of education, a compassion for the less fortunate, and living a life guided by Christian principles. Her passions included gardening, a love of animals, and running. All three she pursued with vigor. During her later years, when she no longer ran, many Bristolians would recognize her walking along the town’s sidewalks.
After her children grew to adulthood, she shifted her focus toward her grandchildren, who received almost all of her attention. She loved being a grandmother.
Mrs. Verria is survived by her son and daughter in law, Lawrence and Celeste Verria, daughter, Colleen Hayden, her three granddaughters, Chelsea Verria, Britney Verria and Simone Verria, her sister Agnes White, and her brother, Peter Hayden. She was predeceased by her brothers, Patrick Hayden, Thomas Hayden, Huey Hayden and her sisters, Mary Littlewood, Elizabeth Higgins, Winifred Clarkin, and Catherine Kelley.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 29, 2022, 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. There will be no wake or visiting hours prior to the Mass.
