Maria Olga Almeida, age 89, of Wood Street, passed away at home on July 5, 2022, surrounded by her family.  She was the loving wife of the late Joao Raposo Almeida.

Born and raised in Relva, Sao Miguel, Acores, she was the daughter of the late Joao Moniz Benevides and Carolina Germano. Mrs. Almeida is survived by her children Mary Almeida and John (Laura) Almeida, and grandchildren Magen Almeida and Morgan Almeida. She was the sister of Connie Pinheiro of Barrington and sister-in-law of Jorgina Benevides of Warren. She was also the sister of the late Maria Neves Lima, Joao Benevides Jr., and Gilberto Benevides. She was the sister-in-law of Lurdes Soares, Conceiçao Raposo, Deodata DeAlmeida, Ermelinda Raposo, Louisa DeAlmeida, and Lilliana Paiva, of Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Almeida is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, and Acores.

Mrs. Almeida was educated in Portugal. She was a talented seamstress and was employed by M&R Sportswear in Bristol and other local textile mills. She also worked for the Barrington Lace Factory and for I. Shalom for many years before retiring.  She was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol. Maria Olga loved spending time with her family.

The family would like to thank Shirley and Celia from the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice for the excellent care Maria Olga received from them.  

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church located on 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
