Maria da Conceicao (Martins Carvalho) Arruda

Maria da Conceicao (Martins Carvalho) Arruda, 92, of Third Street passed away on December 6, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Antonio Cordeiro Arruda.  

Born in Sta. Barbara, St. Antonio, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Barreiro) Carvalho.  She is survived by her children Zelia DeAlmeida and her husband Mario, Maria de Fatima daCamara and her husband Luis Albert and Maria do Carmo Romero and her husband Alex.  She was the grandmother of Sharon Medeiros, Mario DeAlmeida Jr, Shawn DeAlmeida, Luis daCamara, Marco daCamara, Tiago daCamara, Alex Romero Jr, Andrew Romero, Adam Romero and great grandmother of Lucas Medeiros, Arianna Medeiros, Stella deAlmeida and Sophie deAlmeida.  She was the mother of the late Conceicao de Jesus Arruda and Maria de Lourdes Arruda and grandmother of the late Joseph Romero.

Mrs. Arruda was self employed as a housekeeper after coming to the United States and made hand woven rugs while living in Portugal.

Her funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 11th, 9 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
