Maria Alice (DaSilva) Florenzano
Devout Catholic, active in her church, enjoyed cooking, family and friends.
Maria A. (DaSilva) Florenzano, 92, of Bristol passed away peacefully on August 15, 2021 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born in Faial, Acores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Maria and Antonio DaSilva. She emigrated to America in 1959, settling in Newport and then relocating to Bristo
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Anthony Florenzano; her daughter Mary (Rocha) Correia and her husband Louis; her sister Maria Faria; and her nieces Julie Wilcox (Bob); Sandy Faria (Michael); and Liz Vadnais as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her first husband Lionel Rocha; her sister Natalia Vadnais; and brother-in-law Manuel C. Faria.
Maria was a long time communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Bristol where she was an Eucharistic Minister; past President of the Legion of Mary; and faithful member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She also volunteered at the Helping Hands Soup Kitchen and the local Elks Club for 8 years.
Maria was an animal lover who had numerous cats over the years. Many birds and a seagull regularly visited outside her window. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and a daily glass of red wine. She loved cooking, especially Holy Ghost soup for family gatherings. She spent vacation time in Florida, South Carolina and New Jersey with her daughter and son-in-law.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 19th, 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
