Maria T. Almeida

Maria Teresa (Alves) Almeida, 91, of Waterman Street, passed away on July 1, 2026, at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late John I. Almeida. 

Born in Pico de Pedra, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose Alves Martins and Rufina (Carreiro) Alves. She is survived by her son: Walter and Julia Almeida of Bristol; and cherished grandsons: John Julian (Catherine) Almeida, Jordan Almeida, Alexander Almeida, and Nicholas Almeida and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

She was predeceased by her son, John L. Almeida; and siblings: Rachel Carreiro, Mary Jose Brum, and Joseph Alves, Jr.

Teresa emigrated to Bristol, RI, with her husband and two sons in April 1966.  She was employed by Roger Williams University for 20 years before retiring. Mrs. Almeida was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church.

Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 9 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
