Maria Margarida (Labao) Travassos, 93, of Hope Street, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Dawn Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of the late Oliveiro Gouveia Travassos.
Born in Pico de Pedra, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late João and Maria (Alves) Labao. She is survived by her children: Elaine Gianlorenzo of Bristol, Diane (Louis) Rego of Warren, and Albano (Michelle) Travassos of Bristol; grandchildren: Louis Rego, Jr., Matthew Rego, Alexander (Sisca) Travassos, and Victoria Travassos.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Albano Labao, Armanda Silveira, and Dinarte “Dennis” Labao.
Mrs. Travassos was educated in Portugal. She was employed by Converse for over 40 years before retiring.
She was often described as “beautiful inside and out.” She exhibited both a gentle and witty nature through her devotion to family and uplifting sense of humor. Maria Margarida enjoyed cooking and baking (Portuguese biscuits were her favorite), always making sure that no one left hungry. She also enjoyed crocheting and gifting her creations to all her loved ones. She was a model wife, mother, and Catholic that will be remembered for her compassion, creativity, authenticity, strength, and selflessness.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 23, 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
