Mariano M. Brizida, 97, formerly of Roma Street, passed away on April 16, 2023 at Orchard View Manor. He was the husband of the late Marcolina (Medeiros) Brizida.
Born in Lomba da Maia, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Inocencia (Lindo) Brizida. He is survived by his children: Helena Sousa (Jose) of Florida; Fernanda Sousa Vasconcelos (the late Jose) of Povacão, São Miguel, and Mary Lou Pacheco Sittinger (Dennis O'Brien) of Riverside, Rhode Island; grandchildren: Courtney Hunt, Caitlin Jacques, Molly O’Brien, Teresa deJesus Vasconcelos, Christina Vasconcelos, Sarah Vasconcelos, Peter Sousa, Patricia Sousa, and Jennifer Sousa; great grandchildren: Alexander, Lucy Ann, Henrique, Caterina, Joaquim, Brennan, Allison, Jordan, and Finn. Mr. Brizida was predeceased by his siblings Maria de Estrella Sousa, Maria da Rosaria Sousa, Genoveva Sousa Melo, Manuel Brizida, Jacinto Brizida, and Elias Manuel Sousa.
Mr. Brizida was educated in Portugal and employed in maintenance for Pearson Yachts and Bristol Marine before retiring.
His funeral services will be held Friday, April 21st, 9:30 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
