MARTIN NEEDLEMAN
Martin (Marty) Needleman died suddenly from a heart attack on April 25, 2021. He was 84. He is survived by Carolyn Needleman, his life companion for over 60 years.
Marty taught sociology and criminal justice at a number of colleges and universities, most recently at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. After retiring he and Carolyn moved to Bristol, spending the winter months in Florida. They belonged to the Bristol Yacht Club and took many offshore boat trips on their Sabre 34, sometimes as part of a Club cruise and often on their own.
Marty loved DIY projects and kept busy with boat repair, home maintenance, and volunteer work (a favorite: being a reading tutor for third-grade kids). He also enjoyed traveling, reading, theater, discussing current events, and making bad puns. His friends will remember his wacky sense of humor and his readiness always to stop and chat.
Arrangements are with the George C. Lima Funeral Home. At Marty’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations in his name to the East Bay Food Pantry, 532 Wood Street, Bristol RI 02809 are welcome.
