Mary E. Vargas, 86, of Hope Street passed away on January 5, 2023 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph Vargas.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Ponte) Coite. She is survived by her daughter Jo Ann Garcia of Bristol; grandchildren Holly Garcia, Loral Lee Garcia, Shannon Dos Santos, Nathan Vargas, Nicholas Castigliego, and Joseph Vargas III; great-grand children Bryonna Garcia, Alexandrea Quintal, Jaelyn Garcia, Krystal Dos Santos, Tianna Dos Santos, Emmalyn Dos Santos, Brielle Dos Santos, Riley Dos Santos, Zaiden Dos Santos, Caroline Castigliego, Nicholas Castigliego Jr., Mariah Castigliego, and Joshua Castigliego. Mrs. Vargas was predeceased by her children Kathy Lynn Castigliego and Joseph Vargas Jr., and her grandson Cory Vargas.
Mrs. Vargas graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1953. She was employed as a material handler for Transcom before retiring.
Her funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10th, 10AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
