Raul Machado, 78, of Bristol passed away on January 16, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Scarduzio) Machado, to whom he had been married for 53 years.
Born in São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Georgiana (Dos Santos) Machado. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Michael (Beth) Machado of Barrington, and Kimberly (Carlos) Botelho of Bristol; grandchildren Casey Machado, Kyle Machado, Ryan Machado, Timothy Machado, Alex Botelho, and Alison Botelho; along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Evarista Brum of Bristol, and Mariano Machado of São Miguel. Mr. Machado was predeceased by his brothers João Machado, Jose Machado, Manuel Machado, and Guillerme Machado.
Mr. Machado was educated in Portugal. Raul came to the United States in 1961 and worked for many years in the construction industry. He started his own construction company, Raul Machado Construction in 1986 and worked until his retirement in 2016. Mr. Machado was the Man of the Year for the Don Luiz Filipe Society in 1999. He was the first Mordomo of the Holy Trinity in 1986.
Raul loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell funny stories to anyone who would listen. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching any sport that was on television.
His funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 8 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 9 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
Calling hours are Friday, 4 – 8 PM.
