Raymond Cordeiro

Raymond Cordeiro, 85, of Bristol, passed away on July 8, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Oryann Lima.

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late John and Mary Tavares (Felix) Cordeiro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings: John Cordeiro, Arthur Cordeiro, Evelyn Rainey, Ernest Cordeiro, Richard Cordeiro and Robert Cordeiro.

Ray was a 1956 graduate of Colt Memorial High School. He was a professional baseball player, playing 19 seasons of professional ball on teams affiliated with the Kansas City Athletics, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ray had been involved with Roger Williams University and the Athletic Department for over 30 years. He coached the Roger Williams University Baseball team. Cordeiro’s responsibilities for RWU Athletics varied during his tenure, including Intramural and Recreation Director, Recreation Building Manager, Equipment Manager and Purchasing Agent. He served as Associate Athletic Director and was later the Alumni and Community Relations Coordinator. In addition, he also served as RWU Ambassador of Alumni Relations.

Cordeiro was a proud Bristolian who gave back to his hometown in multiple ways. He was a former member of the Bristol Town Council, the Vice Chairman of the Town of Bristol Housing Authority and he and his wife Oryann were Chief Marshals of the 2003 Bristol Fourth of July Celebration. He was a member of the Bristol Athletic Hall of Fame, the Roger Williams University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Roger Williams University Hall of Fame, as well as a trustee of St. Elizabeth Church.

In addition, Ray was also a member of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, Cup Defenders Association, Bristol Elks, Montaup Country Club and a board member of Rogers Free Library.

Ray’s family would like to thank the staff of Crestwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their patience, compassion and care.

His funeral services will be held on Monday July 14, 9:30 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
