Rita Crabtree

Rita (Francis) Furtado Crabtree, age 101, of High Street, passed away on January 4, 2025, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late Albert Crabtree. 

Born at Mt. Hope Farm in Bristol, she was the daughter of John T. and Maria Espirito Santo (Pacheco) Francis, Jr. She is survived by her son Manuel “Sonney” Furtado of Bristol; grandsons Gerald (Caitlyn Finney-Furtado) Furtado of Bristol and Dylan Furtado of Bristol; twin great-grandsons Rowan Furtado and Arden Furtado; step-grandson Cody DeVoy; and brother Joseph Francis of Bristol.

Mrs. Crabtree attended Bristol schools.  Rita worked at M&R Sportswear in Bristol for many years before her retirement of 30 years, as part owner of Bristol Wine and Liquor that was located on Hope Street.  She loved gardening, her beloved African Grey parrot Katie, and her dogs Yogi and Taffy. Mrs. Crabtree had a love for singing and was a member of St. Michael’s Church choir for many years.

She was predeceased by her first husband Manuel Furtado; son Gerald Furtado; and siblings John Francis, Margaret Craig, Veronica Tavares, Elizabeth Aguiar, Daniel Francis, and David Francis.

Her funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17th, the family will receive visitors from 9:00-9:45 at St. Michael’s Church 339 Hope St. with a Service in Thanksgiving and Celebration of the Life of Rita Crabtree at 10:00 am.”. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground.
