Sr. Rosa de Jesus Goncalves

Sister Rosa de Jesus Goncalves SSD, 85, of passed away on October 5, 2019 at Grace Barker Health Center.  

Born in Levada, Braga, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Ana (Corais) Goncalves and sister of the late Manuel Goncalves, Teresa Rodrigues, Joseph Goncalves, Ana Antunes and Maria Leite.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sr. Rosa entered the Sisters of St. Dorothy in Portugal on October 15, 1956 and professed her Final Vows on September 24, 1965.  She ministered in Pova de Vazin, Portugal for five years and then in Angola for ten years.  Upon coming to the United States she ministered at Our Lady of Fatima High School from 1975 – 2012.  She then entered Grace Barker Health Center due to illness where she remained until her death.

Throughout her life she was always dedicated to her community and ministry.  She was very prayerful especially in her devotion to the recitation of the Rosary.

Calling hours for Sr, Rosa will be held Tuesday, October 8th, 10 – 11 AM in the Columban Fathers Chapel, 65 Ferry Road Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
