Steven Lee Smith, of Portsmouth, RI, set sail on his final voyage at the age of 72, passing away on February 10. Born on June 6, 1951, in Henry, IL, he leaves behind a legacy of adventure, craftsmanship, wisdom and humor.
Steven was a man of many talents and passions. An avid sailor, skilled craftsman, and supportive father, Steven embraced life with strength, stoicism, quick thinking, and wit. He had the inherent ability to remain calm and find creative solutions through any challenge and enjoyed teaching and sharing endless stories to others along the way.
Steven had an impressive professional career, filled with travels around the world and numerous notable accomplishments. From his days in Boys Scouts and leadership as a Scoutmaster to the mastery of his several interests, he was a natural born educator that has left a lasting impact on many.
Steven will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Whitney Porto and Hillary Calabrese, along with their husbands and Steven’s granddaughters, Daryll Porto (Camdyn and Dylan Porto) and John Calabrese (Cora Calabrese). Steven is reunited with his predeceased son and best friend, Cameron Smith.
