Virginio Almeida, 93, of Metacom Avenue, passed away on November 4, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving sons. He was the husband of Idalia C. (Tavares) Almeida.
Born in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Virginio and Maria Germina (Rezendes) de Almeida. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Thomas (Karen Agliotta) Almeida of Dedham, MA, and Robert (Cristina) Almeida of Bristol; grandchildren: Victoria Almeida, Isabella Almeida, and Olivia Almeida; and sister: Zulmira (Adriano) DeMello of Bristol.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Virginia Craveiro, Cecilia Almeida, Germina Tavares, David Almeida, Urbano DeAlmeida, and Jose Resendes Almeida.
Mr. Almeida was employed by P.F. Industries for 25 years and then by Premier Thread for 10 years before retiring. He was proud of his participation in the tradition of the Romeiros Pilgrimages affiliated with St. Elizabeth’s Church. He was a passionate gardener who enjoyed tending to his fig tree and grape vines.
His funeral services will be held on Monday, November 10, 9:30 – 10:30 AM from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday, 4 – 7 PM.
